How orc names work
Orc names are short, guttural and blunt: hard g, k, r and sh sounds, few vowels and endings like -gash, -rok and -thar. They are made to be shouted across a battlefield. Clan names are earned rather than inherited, usually a grim word joined with something violent: Skullcrusher, Bloodtusk, Ironmaw. This generator also works for half-orcs, who often carry an orc name among orcs and a softer one elsewhere.
Tips
A half-orc can have an orc name plus a human nickname. Try pairing this generator with the medieval one.
Female orc names here are just as hard-edged but end in vowels: -gha, -sha, -ka.
An orc clan name is a reputation. Pick one that says what the character is known for.
Short and harsh: one or two syllables, lots of g, k, r, z and sh, and almost no soft sounds like l or w.
Does this work for half-orcs?
Yes. Half-orcs raised among orcs usually have names exactly like these.
Can I use these names?
Yes. Names are free to use for pets, stories, games, products and anything else. Real names come from public government records; fantasy names are generated, so you do not need permission to use them.
